What Are Macro-Optimizers?

Many of the chronic degenerative diseases that plague today's world may be caused or aggravated by many factors, including the deterioration of the modern diet. It is vitally important that your diet include the right types of each class of macronutrient:

  • Low-glycaemic complex carbohydrates generally supply energy along with healthy trace elements and phytonutrients.
  • A variety of high-quality protein sources, containing essential amino acids.
  • No more than 10 per cent of your total daily calories should be derived from saturated fat. Replace them with more unsaturated fats and essential fatty acids.

USANA's food products, the Macro-Optimizers were developed to take the guesswork out of proper nutrition by providing delicious sources of low-glycaemic complex carbohydrates, complete proteins, and beneficial fats. The drinks and bars are also easy to take with you, giving you a convenient way to maintain a healthy body with a busy lifestyle.*

The Low-Fat, High-Fibre Advantage
In general, the normal diet in today's society includes only one-half to two-thirds of the fibre necessary for optimal health. Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and rich in fruits, vegetables, and grain products that contain some types of dietary fibre, particularly soluble fibre, may reduce the risk of heart disease, a disease associated with many factors. Low-fat diets rich in dietary fibre may reduce the risk of some types of cancer, a disease also associated with many factors. The positive impact of a high-fibre diet is increased when there is a concurrent reduction in the amount of saturated fat consumed. Many Macro-Optimizer products, such as Iced Lemon Fibergy Bars™, are low-fat, high-fibre foods.*

The Benefits of Healthy Protein
It has been shown that diets low in saturated fat that include 25 grammes of soy protein a day may reduce the risk of heart disease. Nutrimeal™ includes soy, along with other healthy proteins, giving you a source of complete and balanced amino acids. All soy protein in USANA's Macro-Optimizers comes from non-genetically modified sources (non-GMO).*

The Low-Glycaemic Difference
The glycaemic index (GI) was developed to rank different foods according to the extent to which they increase blood glucose following ingestion.

Foods that are assigned a higher GI score generally contain higher levels of rapidly digested carbohydrates and produce a larger rise and fall in blood glucose. High-glycaemic foods provide quick energy, but it is usually short-lived and hunger soon returns. High-glycaemic diets have been linked to obesity, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, and heart disease. Many convenience foods on the market today are high glycaemic.

Foods with a lower GI score generally contain lower levels of carbohydrates and/or carbohydrates that are digested more slowly and produce a more gradual and relatively lower rise in blood glucose. Low-glycaemic foods provide greater satiety and sustained energy. By virtue of their slow digestion and absorption, low-glycaemic foods can help control appetite and delay hunger.*
